In on consignment is this lustrous Burgundy Mist Fender Contemporary Telecaster from the Fugi-Gen Factory in Japan. The Fender Contemporary Telecaster marked the tail end of Fender's "Made in Japan" era, bridging the gap between the sale of the Fender name from CBS in March 1985 and the establishment of Fender's new US plant. Following the sale, Fender's production facilities in Fullerton were not included, leaving Japanese manufacturers as the primary source for Fender instruments until 1987 when the Corona, California plant came online. However, this new facility was initially ill-equipped for large-scale production, mainly focusing on vintage re-issues, producing a mere five guitars a day.
The instrument boasts a distinctive design that combines elements of a Telecaster body with Stratocaster bridge and wiring concepts. Instead of the 'Vintage' tremolo system, it features the new half-locking System 1 with a separate locking nut and fine-tuner bridge. The electronics follow an HSS format, featuring a humbucker at the bridge position. There are three mini-toggle switches in its control setup. The first two, from the neck, control the on/off functions for the neck and middle pickups. The third switch, a three-position toggle, controls the humbucker: up for coil splitting, middle for off, and down for both coils.
Overall, this ultra unique Fender Contemporary Telecaster is in good condition according to Reverb.com's standards, displaying minor finish chipping and some dings, the mini toggles are a bit wiggly and can shift on occasion but are still fully functional. This guitar is all original and comes with the tremolo arm and its original hard shell case.
