What’s not to love about a part-for-part 5E3 circuit? That’s exactly what Clark achieved with the Beaufort, staying true to the classic design while adding thoughtful upgrades.

The Beaufort Special offers both Normal and Bright channels, sharing a common tone control. It’s equipped with voltage-corrected power and a custom-wound output transformer, avoiding harsh high voltages and delivering a rich, deep sound. Clark’s custom-wound interleaved windings output transformer produces a superb deep piano-like low end and high-end clarity, capturing the timeless 5E3 acoustic quality. The amp’s tube complement includes one Vintage US-made 5Y3, two Tung Sol 6V6s, one Tung Sol 12AX7, and one EHX 12AY7.

This amp also boasts Allen Bradley carbon composition resistors and NOS SOZO coupling caps, faithfully recreating the tone of the original Astron caps. With Sprague electrolytics and original solid 22g cloth-covered wire, it’s built to the highest standards. NOS Military Spec tube sockets complete the attention to detail in this build.

The cabinet, while not original, is made from solid pine with a ⅜” birch ply baffle and back panels—just like they were back in the day. The speaker, a Jenson C12N, though not original, contributes significantly to the incredible tone this amp delivers. It’s broken in wonderfully, resulting in the classic Tweed Deluxe sound that dreams are made of.
