There are few amplifiers as beloved as the original blackface Fender Deluxe Reverb, and for good reason. It’s one of those rare amps that seems to get just about everything right: gorgeous cleans, wonderfully touch-sensitive breakup, lush tube-driven reverb, and that unmistakable Fender shimmer.

This 1966 example is a particularly lovely-sounding amp. We’ve had a chance to spend some time playing it, and it’s everything you’d hope for from a vintage Deluxe Reverb. Warm, articulate, responsive, and beautifully musical. It really does sound glorious.

The amplifier retains much of its original circuitry, including the desirable blue molded capacitors, along with the original transformers bearing period-correct 1966 date codes. The power-supply filter capacitors have been replaced, as is common with vintage amplifiers of this age.

The original speaker has also been replaced with the highly regarded Tone Tubby Hempcone 40/40, a 40-watt, 8-ohm speaker that pairs beautifully with the Deluxe Reverb. It’s a great choice for someone who appreciates the classic Fender sound but wants a bit warmer, smoother sound.
