Description

The Cutthroat Audio Fullerton 5G9 is a hand-wired, 20-watt 1x12 combo that modernizes the late-1950s/1960 Fender 5G9 Tweed Tremolux circuit with features that meet the needs of the contemporary player! This amp is sure to scratch that itch for those chasing down that authentic tweed tone and Ron's meticulous attention to detail really shows with this one. Professionally relic'd by Will Dyke at Armadillo Amp Works, this Big Box Narrow cab looks absolutely stunning. Guitar Player Magazine gave this amp a stellar review in their April 2026 issue, “Declared the ‘best-sounding tweed Fender’ by many players.” Make of that what you will, these don't pop up often, so be sure not to sleep on this amazing amplifier.

  • Power Output: 18 watts.
  • Speaker: 12-inch Weber Alnico 12A125 (30-watt) speaker.
  • Tubes: Two matched EH 6V6GT power tubes, one EH 5U4GB rectifier, one TAD 12AY7, two JJ 12AX7s, and one Sovtek 12AX7PS.
  • Cabinet: Lacquered tweed custom replica cabinet (relic’d in collaboration with Armadillo Amp Works).
  • Weight: 35 lbs.
  • Components: Uses Sprague and F&T electrolytic capacitors, Jupiter Red Astron caps, carbon composition/metal oxide resistors, Belton sockets, Carling switches, and Cliff jacks.
Unlike a stock vintage 5G9 circuit, Cutthroat Audio added several performance and utility upgrades:
  • Push-Pull Tone Pot: Engages a second gain stage in the preamp when pulled to push the tone toward a classic Tweed Deluxe (5E3) style.
  • Channel Jumpering: Push-pull pot on the Normal channel volume internally jumpers the channels, removing the need for an external patch cable.
  • Preamp Tube Switching: Push-pull pot on the Bright channel lets you switch between a 12AY7 and a 12AX7 tube.
  • Re-voiced Normal Channel: Re-voiced toward a Marshall/JMP50 lead tone.
  • Post-Phase-Inverter Master Volume (PPIMV): Allows players to dial in overdriven or cranked tones at lower bedroom-friendly volumes.
  • Metropoulos Zero-Loss FX Loop ($195 upgrade): Active, buffered effects loop designed to preserve the amp’s original tone.
  • Other Controls: 3-position negative feedback switch, switchable tube/solid-state rectifier, bias-modulating tremolo with slower speed options, and 4/8/16-ohm speaker output selection.
