Yamaha TA-20 Solid State Combo Amplifier (1968-1972)
This unique transistor-based design from Yamaha is visually one of the coolest amps we've ever laid eyes on, and beyond that, it has a superb vintage tone with choppy tremolo and some of the drippiest spring reverb of any amp that has come through the door. The unique "rhombus" shaped speaker has a styrofoam cone! Its punchy with a surprising amount of heft to it, but it is equally articulate and warm- somewhat unusual for SS design amplifiers. It doesn't break up too much, unless you crank it, but its a great pedal platform- we particularly enjoyed running a Fairfield Barbershop at the end of the fx chain and goosing it with fuzzes, drives, modulation, and delay. We recommend not utilizing the full 20W all hours of the day (the speakers are hard to find), but as an at home/recording amp, this Yamaha TA-20 is a real gem.
An eye-popping unique piece that sounds great at a player grade price. You can't beat this amp for the dollar!
