If you want a simple, organic, and versitile overdrive circuit, the Sick As might be exactly what you're looking for. There's two different seeting for gain and by flipping up the toggle switch, you get high gain sounds that are reminiscent of classic Tweed amp sounds. In the down position, the overdrive features more bass and is perfect for rhythm.
