1963 Epiphone Newport Deluxe Bass

Just in! This interesting Wilshire-meets-EB3 short scale Epiphone bass was released under the moniker "Newport Deluxe EBD". It wouldn't be surprising if you have never heard of or seen this model before, as only 89 of them were shipped between 1961 and 1963. Made in the Kalamazoo factory and using all the same electronics as an EB-3 (minus a Vari-Tone switch), there was 1 Newport Deluxe for every 3 EB-3 basses made in those years. These are RARE, and while this one has been refin'd, whomever did the work had the presence of mind to keep the serial number visible. Overall we'd say it's a pretty professional job- not overly thick, and sporting some nice checking! Everything on the guitar is original- knobs, bridge, pickups, hardware, pickguard. The only other noticeable modification is the relocation of the thumb rest and the non-original control cover plate.

No neck/headstock breaks, frets are original with good height, and it includes the original case (which it has been safely stored in for many years). The bass plays great with some minor whine from the g-string on the 12th fret. Could be a fret height issue, or the strings merely need changing. The flatwounds on the bass are surely vintage, however we don't know the exact age. After a fret polish and a setup this bass is ripping Jack Bruce and McCartney style lines with ease, and with good intonation! Ask any questions you may have, and enjoy looking!
